The Baroque style, in the 17th and 18th centuries, reshaped the medieval buildings of Asti, redoing the appearance of the most prestigious churches and palaces. Among the most important artists was the architect Benedetto Alfieri,cousin of the famous playwright Vittorio Alfieri, who in 1739 succeeded Filippo Juvarra as First Civil Architect of the House of Savoy.
